The AZ Health Zone campus team is a part of the University of Arizona's Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program - Education (SNAP-Ed). The AZ Health Zone campus team supports the development, implementation, and evaluation of policies and environments that promote nutrition and physical activity among the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program's (SNAP) eligible youth and adults in Pima County. The campus team conducts partnership development, community engagement, implementation of Policy, Systems, and Environmental change interventions, and facilitation of nutrition and physical activity education.

The Community Outreach Professional I will implement nutrition and physical activity programming in K-12 schools and community sites within specific geographic regions in Pima County. Careful attention to relationship building, data tracking, and organizational techniques to manage project timelines are essential abilities for this position. The Community Outreach Professional I will ensure that projects and programs are implemented in SNAP-Ed sites using the highest standards. This position will deliver services and direct education to K-12 students and parents within entities such as school districts, community centers, and after school programs. The Community Outreach Professional I will also be responsible for facilitating workshops and community engagement strategies with adult audiences.

Please note that this position is Extended Temporary Employment (ETE) position through October 1, 2022, and may continue depending on additional funding.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Coordinate the AZ Health Zone's youth and adult community outreach programs at locations such as schools, after school and summer programs, early childhood education centers, community events, school districts, community centers, and other approved sites. Some of these areas, Spanish is the preferred language.
• Coordinate and manage projects with K-12 school stakeholders to be implemented in the school year.
• Regularly communicate with K-12 teachers, community stakeholders, and other community partners.
• Conduct public health approaches, including policy, systems, and environment initiatives in schools and other youth or adult sites.
• Gain expertise in the delivery of SNAP-Ed approved curricula for targeted audiences.
• Provide direct nutrition and physical activity education to K-12 students, parents, and community members (experience with delivering education workshops virtually is a plus).

The School of Nutritional Sciences and Wellness at the University of Arizona seeks a Full Time (1.0 FTE) Coordinator of Experiential Learning to support undergraduate and graduate faculty in development, coordination, and oversight of experiential learning opportunities offered through UArizona Main, Online and Distance campuses.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Identify, vet, and establish community partners appropriate for Main Campus, Online Campus, and Distance Campus Students
• Assist students with identifying community sites and monitor sites to ensure they meet course objectives
• Liaise with the UA Contracts office to complete affiliation agreements, memorandums of understanding, and other administrative activities to formalize partnerships between the University and sites and systematically maintain organized records of agreements and key contacts
• Communicate to faculty and students site onboarding requirements (when they are required by an affiliation agreement) and verify that all have been met (drug screening, background check, special immunizations, etc.). Track paperwork and communicate with faculty regarding the status of a student’s clearance to go to a site per the site and UA requirements and agreements
• Work with community partners to assess individual students at both midpoint and end of semester/end of experience
• Work with students and sites to establish and document expectations between student and site; develop templates to streamline the process for specific courses. Track students and communicate the site requirements that they will need and follow up prompts on an ongoing basis
• Oversee completion, and maintain records related to student placement (Internship Work Plan, experiential learning enrollment forms)
• Create and maintain a database to track all sites that students have used over the years to enhance efficiency of future student placements, match students with sites
• Maintain a D2L site with modules that prompt students to complete appropriate paperwork prior to being enrolled in an experiential learning course
• Create partnerships with other campus units and leverage resources in support of department experiential learning activities and opportunities
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, attending evening and/or weekend events as needed
• Additional duties as assigned

• Meet weekly with Yuma students enrolled in the fall semester Yuma section of NSC 425 (MNT 1) to assist with application of course content (meet with students to discuss and review case studies, electronic medical record simulations, etc.) and possibly lecturing and grading. Additionally, meeting with Yuma students to assist them with completing their DICAS applications may also be necessary.
• Meet weekly with Yuma students enrolled in the fall-semester Yuma section of NSC 225 (2 7.5-week courses) to assist with application of course content and other activities as determined by the instructor
• Meet weekly with Yuma students enrolled in the spring-semester Yuma section of NSC 325 (Foundations of MNT) and NSC 325L (MNT lab) to assist with application of course content (e.g., discuss and review case studies, practice collecting nutrition-focused physical examination techniques). Assist with other course responsibilities such as lectures, grading, etc.
• Mentor students to strengthen analytical, problem-solving, and clinical reasoning skills
• Mentor students regarding career development, assist students with securing experiential learning and networking opportunities, and strengthen soft skills such as confidence, communication, working with other, etc.
• Deliver course content to Yuma undergraduate students and assist instructors with additional MNT course concepts and activities as needed
• Demonstrate broad knowledge of medical nutrition therapy and of how to apply the nutrition care process
